I WANTED to talk about that feeling that comes over us the second that school lets out. But once again I am pulled in a different direction while working at a Starbucks. A David Sedaris type character is sitting on the other side of the room and he seems to be on a date. David Sedaris is supposed to be at Parnassus books in two days, if he's in town he's probably staying with Ann Patchett not flirting with a middle aged woman, frothy drink in hand, in Hermitage. This leads me to something I've learned while working in every coffee shop in Middle Tennessee. They may all be called Starbucks. (please take not that while in East Nashville USA I am always frequenting the slew of independents that I love so much, but I will also patronize the SB because of their wonderful adoption assistance program, yes in another life I was a Barista myself ) but I digresss. shocking I know..
The vibe is very specific in each and every Starbucks. The one I frequent the most is quite the scene, if you're over fifty. And if you're not, you're very beautiful, and look like Keith Urban. Sometimes you are Keith Urban, and your the nicest person EVER. There are three Starbucks in the area and one of the others is the home of the conservative corporate type, changing only when the conservative corporates kids get out of school and fill up the seats studying in their various plaid skirts and brightly colored shirts. I don't mind working at this Starbucks because even though I'm as left as the pacific ocean my child is a student at one of these fine establishments and I play well with others. And I don't get distracted here as much as I do at pick up city down the road. Now, if you're up on West End near Vandy you'll find one very busy Starbucks that is all about the job interview. I've witnessed several of these while spending a very boring eight hours uploading stock photography to online sites. I learned alot.
I love working at the Franklin Starbucks.. very nice baristas and lots of old timers and songwriter types sittin a spell and just talking about life, while moms and toddlers toddle through mid day before nap time. Brentwood Starbucks is fun but too small. I always feel like someone might just be reading over my shoulder.
But back to David.. this poor guy is still going on and on. .He's just a talking.. and the lady is so interested. But isn't it supposed to be the other way around. I know.. it's hard and sometimes nervousness makes us ramble... Just introduce me to a celebrity and see what happens.. it's a joke between Shawn and me. Let's just hope I don't see Johnny Depp people.. let's just hope...
I just heard him say "Crime scene" and a few minutes before that.."I never thought I'd catch that mouse" Oh David Sedaris look a like...
So okay. This post didn't say much did it. And we come full circle. That's what summer is all about. A whole lotta nothing, which means alot when you're going full steam ahead nine months out of the year. Here's a pretty picture to finish off such a profound post.
