You may be one of the two million people who've seen this youtube video but if you're not, like I was, and you find yourself crying in the Starbucks yet again, it's an incredible testament to silence, waiting and just plain keeping your mouth shut.

Marina Abramovic and Ulay started an intense love story in the 70s, performing art out of the van they lived in. When they felt the relationship had run its course, they decided to walk the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting for one last big hug in the middle and never seeing each other again.

At her 2010 MoMa retrospective Marina performed ‘The Artist Is Present’ as part of the show, where she shared a minute of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her. Ulay arrived without her knowing and this is what happened.
My thoughts...
Would be curious to know what you think. I wasn't familiar with Marina's performance art and beyond finding some of it fascinating, I wonder if she truly hadn't seen Ulay in 30 years or it was staged for the show at MoMa. I do find their intensity between one another revealing and true, whether they saw each other in the beginning or not. I also had a friend talk to me the other day about theatre and the reason we go into it, is to be seen and heard. It might sound obvious to some, but to me, who sort of found her place there and felt at home and right with the world as soon as I entered those doors, it was a new concept.
