There is a Season

Summer is for long lazy days at the pool  and catching up on all 400  magazines you've let pile up over the year.  You keep your  air conditioner on sixty-two degrees and you watch all the crazy summer  shows way into the night, like True  Blood or Breaking Bad and you sleep in the next day until nine or  eleven... there are parties, lots of watermelon  eating,  and an Uno or Apples to Apples game going at all times, if you can tear your middle schooler away from the latest Hunger Games copycat. Hopefully, there's the beach, inside jokes that make you snort, great margaritas and long dusky walks through the neighborhood. But Fall will be arriving soon and although I'm years beyond heading to a Texas high school football stadium on friday nights, I always think of the lights, the air, the bad for you nachos and the small town feel as you walk through the stands, the band plays the theme song to something we thought we...

Caddo Lake is a real place... Bon Temps isn't.. or is it??

I'm pretty sure moms hire me to shoot their lovelies because I have a way with kids.. maybe it's that I act like one.. hmmm I've never thought about that... time to look a little deeper and ponder that... I'm also a talker.. chatty if you will..Although I don't talk as much when I shoot.. so don't get scared now.. LOL if you haven't had a session with me.. and I love animals.. dogs especially. My goodness. I don't know how I could get through a day without snuggling my dogs.. and the songs I sing them.. well that's another post..  Something funny happened in my new Etsy shop today and I was taken back to  these photos below of Caddo Lake, that's right..the ones with no people in them at all.. now we're coming full circle.. and in honor of True Blood, the very silly show that jumps the shark just about every week.. my tribute to the Louisiana swamps.. these pics are available for purchase on Etsy.. here!  Now wer'e getting do...
I don't have any words for how sweet these boys are... it's enough to make you burst into tears just looking into these faces.SO.SWEET.
This is Lilla. She's a studious little girl, an actress, a singer, a sweet spirit. When I think about myself at this age the sounds of The Little River Band fill my head..being in middle school was to this day the hardest time in my life and somedays I wondered if I would make it through 7th grade band in the afternoon. Not knowing where I fit in, my gold threaded shirt and my bad Farrah Fawcett wings..today the clothes are different, but the stories are still the same. Lilla and her friends, Mariama being one, are making middle school look easy. They're confident, sensitive, and focused. Their honesty is disarming and we learn from them as much as they learn from us. One of the biggest reasons I love to photograph children.
I love Janette. She makes me laugh. We have Baylor Theatre in common so we share many of the same ridiculous college stories..LOL and the Dallas Theatre scene in common. I was in it for 5 minutes.. well more than that.. from 1991 to 2006 but a show here.. a show there.. years in between.. NYC in between... Los Angeles... Janette's having the time of her life doing shows and Big D is home. She's a great actress and will be in Uptown Players production of The Divine Sister    coming up in a couple weeks.I will say it brought back great memories to hit Exposition park, even in 100 degree heat. And you know I'm a Fort Worth girl. Dallas got too big for me..too much concrete.. but this trip was a bit nostalgic.. it was the perfect place to shoot such a great woman.

Into the Woods

Last month we had the pleasure of having The Claytones and sweet Carmen stay at Chez Dodd. Hanging by the creek with our unruly dogs, they made beautiful music and I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off in the lovely month of May, which had to be the busiest May of my life. Toward the end we had a fun photo shoot and shot a little video in Beaman Park. One of my favorite places to hike in Nashville. Enjoy!
